Akron Photographer Smiggz Drops His #50ShadesOfMelanin Photoshoot: Suit & Tie Edition

Akron photographer/ music artist Alton McCormick (better known as Smiggz), owner and CEO of SmiggzArt Inc. dropped his most recent photoshoot, #50ShadesOfMelanin: Suit & Tie edition, and it has social media in an uproar.

Smiggz has been doing this photography event (Fifty Shades Of Melanin) since 2017. The purpose is to empower the African American community, showcasing black men, women and children from different environments, highlighting their shared experiences and stories of resilience. This event aims to build connections, uplift spirits and to be able to reflect on the beautiful diversity and strength within the community. Suit & Tie Edition: SmiggzArt Inc. teamed up with #AkhdarEnterprises and DeJuan’s Downtown Akron to make this event happen.

The women were eager for the photoshoot to be released and were excitedly discussing and sharing their favorite looks. Many of the men were disappointed that they had missed out on such an amazing event. While there were a few people who had negative things to say, overall the feedback from this shoot was very positive.

I spoke to Smiggz about his selection process and he assured me that it is always fair and open to everybody. He said he sends out invitations to the people who show interest. Getting 50 black men together for something positive is a significant achievement in itself. This photoshoot demonstrates the strength of community. There was no funeral, drama, arguing, fighting, or shooting — just pure good vibes, brotherhood, and fellowship.
