You would think that there is a calendar, clock or the time showcased somewhere on the majority of devices used to access Google these days, so I decided to find out why people search for the time on the internet.

Time is displayed in Eastern Standard Time

Surprisingly enough… the most asked question on Google is actually “what time is it?” While the second most asked question is “what is today?” >>Click here for a list of the top questions asked on Google<<

  • Clock Accuracy – Some people may want to verify the correct time if they think their device is running fast or slow, or if there is a discrepancy between two different time sources (clock, radio, computer, phone, watch, etc.).
  • Time Zone Differences – They may want to know the current time in another location.
  • Voice Search – Users visually impaired or who may not know how to read the time could be asking a Google assistant what time it is so it can be repeated out loud to them. >>Click here to hear the time<<
  • Daylight Savings Time – People may want to make sure their clocks went back or forward automatically during daylight savings time.
  • System Issues – In rare cases, malware or system issues might cause a device’s time to be inaccurate.
  • Ease of Access/ Convenience – For many people, Google is a fast and easy way to find information, including the current time, even if they have a clock on their device or computer.

For all the people who search for the time on Google… this one is for you! Just like our teachers used to tell us in grade school… “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD or STUPID QUESTION.”
