Brush High School Names Former NFL Player & Buchtel Head Coach, Ricky Powers, As Its New Football Coach

Lyndhurst, OH – Ricky Powers, former NFL player (Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens through 1996) and more recently, head coach of Buchtel High School for the past 14 seasons, has just been named the new coach for Brush High School.

Powers resigned as Buchtel’s coach back in January and joined Brush as a youth development specialist in the district. The football team finished their season 5-5 under Eddie Hall (fourth year coach).

I am overwhelmingly excited for this opportunity, I thank Coach Hall for his fortitude during the transition, and I look forward to putting our program on a national map.”

Coach Powers led Buchtel with a compiled record of 82-61 in his 14 seasons, which included a Division III state semifinal run in 2010 (Akron City Schools). Brush has not enjoyed a winning season in over four years, and they hope by bringing Powers on, it will change the dynamics for them.

South Euclid-Lyndhurst Superintendent Linda Reid is former Garfield Heights schools leader: Summing up Superintendents - cleveland.com

“Powers’ championship mindset and his commitment to excellence will undoubtedly and positivity shape our football program into the future.”

~Dr. Linda N. Reid (Superintendent)
