Details About Kim Kardashian West & President Donald Trump’s Meeting
On May 30, 2018, we saw Donald Trump posted the above picture of himself and Kim Kardashian West and the caption read “Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.” Donald J. TrumpVerified account @realDonaldTrump
I saw a lot of negative post basically saying what does Kim Kardashian West know about prison reform. A lot of people do not think she is qualified to talk about these things, but she just recently released a statement about the details of the meeting with the President in his Oval Office.
Kim was meeting with the Trump to talk about and lobby for the clemency of Alice Marie Johnson. She is a 63 year old (black) woman who was sentenced to life in federal prison for drug trafficking (which is a non-violent offense). To add fuel to the fire, on top of being sentenced to life for a non-violent offense, this was also her 1st offense!!
Alice Marie Johnson was indicted on charges in 1993. She was arrested with 15 other people (co-defendants). The charges were conspiracy for drug trafficking and money laundering charges. 10 of the co-defendants turned on Johnson and testified on the stand, giving them sentences from no jail time to up to 10 years. In 1997, Alice Marie Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole (even though this was her 1st time ever being in trouble & for a NON VIOLENT offense). “I acknowledge that I have done wrong,” she once said. “I made the biggest mistake of my life to make ends meet and got involved with people selling drugs.” When Obama was in office, she applied for clemency 3x but was denied each time.
As she has Alice Marie Johnson caught the attention of the national headlines when Kim tweeted about her story to her 60 million followers. A petition calling for her release has since gathered more than 260,000 signatures.
Kim Kardashian West sat down with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner prior to meeting with Donald Trump at the White House. Trump is said to be in favor of waiving Mrs Johnson’s sentence after the move was backed by daughter Ivanka. On Wednesday she tweeted: “Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson. Today is for you.”
