Ear Kandy Radio, the heartbeat of the streets

Dope City Artist of the Month : Emerald Neki

Emerald Neki is a rising artist from Akron Ohio that recently won Dope City’s December Artist of the Month on Ear Kandy Radio. Emerald has been taking Ohio by storm with her unique sound, style and work ethic. This hungry artist isn’t a newbie, she has been puttin in work since her high school days and you can tell by her live performances that she takes her craft very seriously.

The rapper/singers latest release is the Gold Album and it is FIRE. The project definitely has a wide variety of songs, subject matter, and dope beat selections. Emerald starts off with “Baby” which is a play off and flip of Ashanti’s classic track released in the early 2000s. She displays both her rap and singing skills on this song giving it a dope vibe to ride to. Then the next track features Taiz called “UP” where both females MCs shred the smooth track to show off their lyrical techniques. “Juice” and “Rachet” take you straight to the club with the banging bass lines and catchy hooks. On “Idgaf” Emerald and Chi Chi go in letting the rap world know that females can’t get down with the shits just like the fellaz. With tracks 6 an 7 she slows it down and opens up on a deeper level with some dope RnB tracks. “Never Thought” was my favorite out of those two tracks. It really gives you insight on some of the struggles females go through after a relationship. On “FuckBoy” Emerald is clearly over the relationships talked about in the previous tracks and is back in her bag goin hard on em. “Dope Girl” is one of my personal favorite from the album. The beat is dope and content of the track had me vibing out while bending a few corners. “Pressure” and “Whole Lotta” are two bangers where Emerald Neki talks that talk over the beat. She ends the album with three tracks focusing on lyrical content and substance on “Problems”, “Losing Myself”, and “Legend”.

Overall the album is solid and been in rotation for me ever since I sat down to listen for this review. If you’re a fan of good music I recommend you check it out for yourself and follow  @EmeraldNeki on Instagram. You can download The Gold Album available on all streaming music platforms. Respect the Art, Support the Culture.

Make sure you be on the look out for her upcoming Ep called “Ms Jackson” and her R&B project called “She-Mix”.
