There was an explosion the Kenmore/Akron, Ohio area. I drove down Manchester to try to get pictures, but police have it blocked off for a half mile radius. The Akron Fire Department has confirmed the explosion happened at Emerald Performance Materials, a chemical manufacturing plant located at 240 W Emerling Ave, Akron, OH 44301 earlier today (Wednesday 7/18/8).
Akron Fire Lieutenant Siergie Lash said no injuries were reported and authorities are working with the business to make sure all employees are accounted for. They did not confirm the source or reason for the explosion or if it was related to if chemicals were spilled or released in the atmosphere. A Hazmat team has been called to the scene. As I said, the police have majority of the roads blocked off and a lot of the businesses nearby were evacuated as a precaution.
We will keep an eye on this story and continue to keep you up to date. But here is a little bit about the company.
