Akron, OH – The Akron Public School Board has voted to reinstate sports this fall like the rest of the schools in the district.
Initially, they voted to suspend falls sports due to covid-19. Students, parents and community leaders raised their concerns (& even started an online petition). A meeting was held Monday night to take a new vote since Akron Public Schools was the only schools in the city no participating in fall sports.
Two members of the school board changed their initial vote and this made it possible for fall sports to start in September. The first football game is scheduled for September 19, 2020, and practice is expected to start this week.
