Beirut, Lebanon – There was a massive explosion which rocked downtown Beirut, and flattened most of the port.
The explosion knocked out windows in buildings across the city, and damaged cars, houses and injured hundreds of people. Although the blast happened downtown near the port, injuries and damages have been reported miles away.
One of the eye-witnesses described the scene as an apocalypse.
There are conflicting reports of what caused the explosion. Initially it was blamed on a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the airport. The director of general security later said the blast was caused by confiscated “high explosive materials” but did not provide any further details.
One of major hospital in Beirut received over 400 injured patients. Injuries are ranging from cuts and scrapes, to broken limbs and glass impacted in their skin.
