Lawsuit Filed Against Mississippi By Yo Gotti & Roc Nation

Updated: 2-27-20

Rapper Yo Gotti & Jay Z’s Roc Nation attorneys have filed a second lawsuit against the Mississippi State Prison, on behalf of over 150 inmates who say they are living in detestable conditions.

“The conditions of confinement at Parchman are so barbaric, the deprivation of health and mental health care so extreme, and the defects in security so severe, that the people confined at Parchman live a miserable and hopeless existence confronted daily by imminent risk of substantial harm in violation of their rights under the U.S. Constitution”

~Marcy Croft, one of the attorneys representing inmates in the two lawsuits, wrote.

The suit claims that due to short staffing, incompetence, and corruption, inmates are forced to live in inhumane conditions. Nine inmates have died this year at Parchman, putting the facility on “pace to break its morbidly shameful record of annual inmate deaths.” The inmates are only asking for access to decent healthcare, basic human rights and mental health services.

There has been a lot of talk about the horrible condition the inmates are being forced to live in the Mississippi state prison… The news was actually spread by the inmates with cell phones, posting about all things that were taken place in the prison. They are actually claiming all the riots were started by the correction officers who were affiliated with different gangs.

Well rapper Yo Gotti and Jay Z’s Roc Nation are done talking about it! They have filed a lawsuit against the state of Mississippi because of the state of the prison.

The conditions in the prisons operated by the Mississippi Department of Corrections are absolutely inhumane and unconstitutional,” Gotti told Complex last week. “To see this happen so close to my hometown of Memphis is truly devastating. That’s why we’re calling on Mississippi state leaders to take immediate action and rectify this issue. If they don’t right this wrong, we’re prepared to take legal action to provide relief for those that are incarcerated and their families.

Nothing was done, so the lawsuit was filed! This is a federal lawsuit, and it alleges the inmates are being kept in horrible & inhumane conditions… The lawsuit reads,

“Plaintiffs’ lives are in peril. Individuals held in Mississippi’s prisons are dying because Mississippi has failed to fund its prisons, resulting in prisons where violence reigns because prisons are understaffed. In the past two weeks alone, five men incarcerated in Mississippi have died as the result of prison violence. These deaths are a direct result of Mississippi’s utter disregard for the people it has incarcerated and their constitutional rights.”

I’m happy Yo Gotti and Roc Nation are stepping up and giving these inmates a voice, where their voices are barely heard. We will keep you guys updated on this story. I pray the state of Mississippi gets it together. Take a look at some of the footage from the prisons.
