Unfortunately schools have been closed as of now til April 3rd. The closing may be extended until the end of the year but we’re praying the coronavirus is handled by then. Many families were concerned about how they would feed their family.
Unfortunately many kids depend on school meals to eat. It’s Estimated that over 13 million kids in this country, are going to school hungry. One in five children in the United States live in food insecure households, which means they lack consistent access to enough food. ( Washington Post)
Here in Akron the school district created a plan to feed children while on leave. According to News 5 Cleveland “On Tuesday, APS employees gathered at more than 40 schools and handed out about 5,000 grab-and-go meals to families. Food included sandwiches, apple slices, snacks, milk, juice, snacks and other items.
The meals will be available Monday through Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at most Akron schools during the lengthy closure. On Thursdays, families will receive extra meals to help cover weekends. The meals are being made available to all children regardless of their school district.”
Big shoutout to all staff members helping to provide food for the children! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed! You are appreciated…
