Last week on July 27, 2017, a home in Akron, OH erupted into flames out of no where. A neighbor called the police to report the fire and the dispatcher asked him if he could see any flames or smoke & the neighbor said “Oh, it’s involved”. Akron Fire Department arson investigators quickly determined that the fire had been intentionally set with an accelerate. That same neighbor, Tommy Lee Tanner (61 years old) is the only suspect at this time. The house is located at 114 Bachtel Ave.
There was a woman in the house at the time it was firebombed, who was critically injured with burns on 60% of her body. Her name is Tamela Vargo and she was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Unit where she remains in critical condition.
Tanner was arraigned on 1 count of aggravated arson and 1 count of felonious assault. Bond was set at $100,000 and he is currently behind bars at the Summit County Jail. His neighbors believed for this to be totally out of his character and they said they don’t know if he knew anybody was even in the house because it was vacant.
