A pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in Akron was identified Saturday by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office as George Fry, 64, of Akron.
Fry was hit while crossing the street in the area of South Arlington Street and East Exchange Street in the city’s Middlebury neighborhood, police said.
Officers were notified around 8:15 p.m. and found Fry lying in the road. Based on information gathered at the scene, police said he appeared to have been crossing from west to east when a vehicle, believed to be gray, struck him and its operator drove away. Fry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic investigators are working to identify the driver, and police said speed appeared to have been a factor.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Officer conducted an autopsy on Saturday.
