2018 November General Election
I thought it would be helpful to create a guide with general information on the issues that are on the ballot. A sample ballot is also below so you can be ready when you arrive at the polls. On Money Monday’s this evening we are talking about voting and how not voting impacts each individual in your community.
Voting Information
If you are unsure of where to vote click this link WHERE DO I VOTE to enter your street number, and the street name for your polling location. You can also vote at the Summit County General Board of Elections located at 500 Grant St. Akron, Oh 44311. Summit County General Board of Elections will be open Monday, November 5th 8:00 am – 2:00 pm and Tuesday, November 6th 6:30 am – 7:30 pm.

The Issues that are on the ballot are below
Issue 1
To Reduce Penalties for Crimes of Obtaining, Possessing, and Using Illegal Drugs
Proposed Constitutional Amendment
Proposed by Initiative Petition
To add a new Section 12 to Article XV
of the Constitution of the State of Ohio
A majority yes vote is necessary for the
amendment to pass.
If adopted, the amendment would:
• Require sentence reductions of
incarcerated individuals, except
individuals incarcerated for murder, rape,
or child molestation, by up to 25% if the
individual participates in rehabilitative,
work, or educational programming.
• Mandate that criminal offenses of
obtaining, possessing, or using any drug
such as fentanyl, heroin,
methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, and
other controlled substances cannot be
classified as a felony, but only a
misdemeanor.
• Prohibit jail time as a sentence for
obtaining, possessing, or using such
drugs until an individual’s third offense
within 24 months.
• Allow an individual convicted of
obtaining, possessing, or using any such
drug prior to the effective date of the
amendment to ask a court to reduce the
conviction to a misdemeanor, regardless
of whether the individual has completed
the sentence.
• Require any available funding, based
on projected savings, to be applied to
state-administered rehabilitation
programs and crime victim funds.
Issue 8
Proposed Tax Levy (Renewal and Increase) Summit County Children Services Board
A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.
A renewal of 2.25 mills and an increase of 1 mill to constitute a tax for the benefit of Summit County to support children services and the care and placement of children by the Summit County Children Services Board at a rate not exceeding 3.25 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to 32.5 cents for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 6 years,
commencing in 2019, first due in the calendar year 2020.

Proposed Charter Amendment

City of Akron
A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.
Shall Section 4 of the Charter of the City of Akron be amended to move the primary election date for municipal elections to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May?
